Tom Kapinos wrote each season as a novel that Hank Moody is writing. Every season opens and closes on him at a typewriter, and the manuscript is the season's events. Half-hour single-camera, no laugh track, when Showtime comedies were still shifting to that format. David Duchovny plays Moody, a novelist with one good book and a Los Angeles addiction.
